In 1985 it happened with Jim Mellody. He had been the owner of a small Italian restaurant near the University of Tampa when he decided to purchase a sandwich shop near Brandon, Florida. Floyd "Sonny" Tillman and his wife, Lucille, founded Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q in Gainesville, Florida. The year was 1968.
